I just read that PDF that Catherine wrote that said henna darkens over time. So, for those of you that have grown out henna to natural or even just go 3-6 months between henna with no glosses/root touch ups, please tell me if you think your ends lightened or darkened with time.
I don't think henna changes much after it has oxidized, unless you do multiple layers of henna, which will make it darker, or if you spend a lot of time outside in the sun, which will make it lighter. I only do root applications and usually go several months between each application, and I can't see any difference between the "older henna" on my length and the freshly dyed roots.

I grew out henna but one application only; it was hideous on me. Over time the henna lightened to such an extent that you couldn't see a line of demarcation between the henna and my natural mid-range golden blond color. However, I could see the difference when I lifted the ends to my scalp.
Here's a thought: a number of users have found that heat styling darkens henna, making it first burgundy and then brown. Maybe that effect, rather than solely aging virgin henna, is what she ultimately observed?
