Thread: Covering henna while it lies for dye release

Default Covering henna while it lies for dye release

I mixed some more henna and now it's frozen. Gonna retouch my roots next week. But I just realised that I left it waiting for dye release without covering it. I've read somewhere that you're supposed to cover it with some plastic or something. Is that imperative?

I leave mine covered with saran wrap while waiting.

Yep, I do it too. Bu this time I forgot and I'm afraid it will affect the color somehow.

As long as you tested for dye release before you froze it there shouldn't be a problem. The cover just helps it release faster. For example, you would cover hot tea to let it steep. You don't have to cover tea, but it is faster if you lock in the heat. I think it is fine.

Oh, thank you Infidel! I thought it had something to do with avoiding oxidation before time (before you even put it in your head). I did test it in my hand and the little dot turned orange so I guess it's fine!

You're supposed to cover it? I've never done that in several years of henna, and I've never had an issue at all.

LOL! Well, there's your answer to that, OP!

I mix mine in a ziplock bag for easy transfers, but everyone's got their own method.
