I sometimes report posts that break blatent rules (such as people going back and deleting their entire original post) but frequently I hesitate due to said message.
I have often read where the mods have assured the members that the report posts function can be used to report things like double posts, typos in thread titles, and other simple mod items. Yet the note above appears whenever someone clicks on the report link, causing people to be reluctant to do so.Note: This is ONLY to be used to report spam, advertising messages, and problematic (harassment, fighting, or rude) posts.
Could we have a list of what is okay to use the report link for?
Also, is it possible for the admins to change the note above to include some of the more simple jobs that the report link could be used for?

That is a cool idea, eaglesflight! I, for one, really like it when you guys let us know about all kinds of things that we can fix. I will ask the powers that be about it. Thanks for asking.
I agree, this is an excellent idea!! I've been tempted to report, but when that message showed up, what I was reporting didn't fall into the mentioned infractions...However, after re-reading forum policies, that individual was breaking about 10 of them...Okay, not 10, but 9 at least!
I have reported quite a few posts in the past. And not all because they were against the rules, many because they were simply in the wrong forum.
I figured it is the easiest way to let something be known, rather than searching for a mods PM addy or such.
I have updated the Report Post canned message to be a little less... discouraging!

Oh good! I had reported a post in the past and saw that message. I was scared I was going to get a spanking for misusing the report button

Wouldn't it be better to report too many posts and allow the mods to decide what action (if any) to take, rather than reply to the offending post and get yourself in trouble? I report posts frequently and rarely hear back about the report. I don't expect to hear what action was taken. I see it as a way to let the mods know what I've seen and what my concern about the thread/post might be. It's up to them to do as they wish. I sometimes will send a "hey look at this. You guys might want to keep and eye on it". I'm a mod at TBB and we really appreciate the reported posts no matter what the reason.
