I was looking at http://web.archive.org/web/201203070...e&articleid=13 for information on dimethicone, which seems to be common in lots of shampoos. However many varying cones, some water soluble, some not, had dimethicone in the name (none were just, "dimethicone"). How do you know which of the many cones is the one in shampoo?

Kandy, there is LOI- list of ingredients, it must have the INCI names of ingredients https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/International_Nomenclature_of_Cosmetic_Ingredients, so you check it there. Or copy/paste it to google and you'll find your answer.

Yet, it exists on its own, though. It is not water soluble if on its own.

Take a look at this, and also: Google!

WCC method (washing) --- Rinse-out oil (MO) --- LOC/LCO method (styling)
