Cutting your own layers

I just watched this youtube on cutting your own layers. I was wondering if anyone did this and how it worked. I was also wondering if using this cut keeps the bottom layer even also or does that require more cutting. Her first video was just the frist cut for long layers and this one includes another cut for more layers.

My last attempt at Feyes method was pretty decent. I was also considering some layers.

This cut is a good way to get layers. You will probably need to trim your hemline into your desired shape when you are done. It depends on the shape of your head and your hairline at the nape. If you like a straighter line, you will not like this cut as you will lose some length on the sides. Also, do not do the other steps where she takes different sections and cuts them shorter. This looks to disconnected on dry hair.

My hair's not very long yet (between shoulder and bra strap) but this is how I cut my hair and it always comes out great! You have to make sure all the hair is in the center of your head and evenly pulled into the ponytail (no loose spots) so the layers are straight. I don't usually need to even up the ends afterwards, but it does tend to put your hair in a U shape so like Willow said you may need to trim into your desired shape if you don't like the U shape. I've even done it once where I part the top section separately after doing the whole thing, but I wasn't cutting off two inches - I cut an inch off the total length, and then maybe 1/2 an inch off the top just to get a tad more layering near the ends to help my waves.

Yes I have done this before. I followed it with Feye's self trim method just to make sure the hemline was even

I cut my hair myself all the time, but I dont do the pony tail method it scares me to think it might be very uneven and choppy. What i do is cut in a rounded sort of angle....I do a really good job and I even cut alot of other peoples hair. I never had any training I have just loved hair since I was a kid. I started cutting my own hair at 11 years old...mom almost killed me cause I was terrible but I continued and by age 13 I was really good at it and cutting others hair too. I think it is so fun to cut hair and since I love long hair I dont try to cut peoples hair short I just try to make long hair have good style!!

I cut my own layers, but there's no real method to my madness. I leave it wavy and snip where I see a tendril getting straggly, and as my bangs grow out they're turning into layers in the front, which I'll probably start maintaining when they get a bit longer.

Thanks for the links and input. Now that I have layers again, I think I will be able to maintain them and this looks very do able.
